Prep Hoops Roundup: Bonneville girls score 52 in 2nd half for win

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville used a dominant 52-19 second half to beat Stansbury 68-52 and stay unbeaten in Region 11.

Sadie Larsen and Talia Afuvai each scored 15 points for Bonneville (10-4, 5-0 Region 11). Jenna Czarnecki added 14 with four 3-pointers.

Mikaela Johnson tallied 13 points and Karly Conolly netted 11 for the Lakers.

CLEARFIELD 45, LAYTON 43

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield took a 36-29 lead into the fourth quarter and held off a Layton rally to nab the region win.

Haylie Anderson had 16 points, three assists and four steals to lead Clearfield (9-6, 4-3 Region 1). Jill Thalman posted six points and six rebounds while Brynnley Christiansen added six points and three boards.

Kaitlyn Viator and Corinne Case each scored nine points for Layton (10-5, 4-3).

NORTHRIDGE 52, WEBER 47 (OT)

LAYTON — Northridge took a 23-16 lead at the break. Weber outscored the Knights 13-6 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but Northridge prevailed in the region contest.

Jessica Petersen had 15 points, 10 rebounds and three steals to lead Northridge (11-2, 3-2 Region 1). Brooklyn Perkins scored eight and Lydia Mashburn added seven points and five assists.

Bridget Triplett had 12 points to pace Weber (9-6, 3-3). Megan Smoot scored 10 points and Paige Aardema added nine, all on 3-pointers.

ROY 55, WOODS CROSS 47

ROY — Roy and Woods Cross played to a 21-21 tie through two quarters, but the Royals outscored the Wildcats 34-28 after halftime to claim the region win.

Josie Williams scored 19 points to lead Roy (11-3, 2-0 Region 5). Brittney Hatch had 17 points and Kay Poppel added 12.

Olivia Barton matched Williams with 19 for Woods Cross (12-5, 2-1) and Sara Noel added 15.

VIEWMONT 59, BOX ELDER 54

BRIGHAM CITY — Mercedes Staples poured in 37 points to lead Viewmont to a region win at Box Elder.

Staples made four 3-pointers and shot 13 of 20 from the field, adding five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Viewmont (12-1, 2-0 Region 5) built a 35-21 halftime lead and held on for the win.

Emily Isaacson scored 15 points to lead Box Elder (8-9, 0-3).

BOYS BASKETBALL

BOX ELDER 68, VIEWMONT 66

BOUNTIFUL — Box Elder had three players score in double figures as the Bees (7-6, 1-0 Region 5) held on for a close win in their Region 5 opener at Viewmont (5-10, 0-1 Region 5).

Ronald Smith led all scorers with 18 points, Max Watson scored 17 with eight rebounds and Tyson Madson added 12 points off the bench for Box Elder.

Spencer Mackay led the Vikings with 17 points, Josh Mordue scored 16 points from the bench and Chandler Cox had 14 points with a team-high nine rebounds.

LAYTON 75, CLEARFIELD 61

LAYTON — Layton led 41-33 at halftime and coasted to the region win over Clearfield.

Collin Jeppson scored 19 points to lead Layton (10-4, 4-1 Region 1). Brooks Kokkola added 14, Chase Potter tallied 13 and Austin Korth had 10 points.

Clearfield (4-9, 0-4) was paced by Carter Buchi’s game-high 20 points. Devon Poll scored 14 and Grayson Banks added 13 points.

FREMONT 73, DAVIS 68

PLAIN CITY — Dallin Hall scored 24 points and Cade Hadley scored 20 as Fremont (11-4, 3-2 Region 1) used a big second half to beat Davis (10-4, 1-3) at home.

The Darts shot 64 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 37-33 halftime lead, which the Silver Wolves quickly reversed in the second half.

Brendon Redford led Davis with 23 points and 17 rebounds despite playing with four fouls in the second half. Rich Stucki added 19 points and Josh Sanders scored 14 for Davis.

Kyler Bush scored 13 points with 14 rebounds for Fremont, which shot 62.5 percent from the field in the fourth quarter and had a 9-of-13 mark from the free-throw line.

SKY VIEW 55, BEAR RIVER 48

GARLAND — Bear River led 37-35 going into the fourth quarter but Sky View outscored the Bears 20-11 in the final frame to capture the region win.

Jake Dahle scored 21 points to lead Bear River (12-3, 2-1 Region 12).

STANSBURY 43, BONNEVILLE 34

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Stansbury took a 22-12 lead over Bonneville into the break and held on for the region road win.

Jonah Nielsen scored 12 points to lead Bonneville (5-8, 2-3 Region 11) while Hank Bushell added seven.

WEBER 68, NORTHRIDGE 57

LAYTON — Weber led 35-25 at the half and held off a Northridge charge in the fourth quarter to grab the region road win.

Austin Bartholomew scored 18 points to lead Weber (8-5, 2-2 Region 1). Kobe Furqueron had 17 points and Hudson Schenck added 15.

Jovonte Wyllie scored a game-high 19 points to lead Northridge (6-8, 2-2). Alec Duffin had 11 points and Lawrence Yarbrough added 10.

ROY 63, WOODS CROSS 56

ROY — Ben McBride scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half and Roy opened Region 5 play with a home win over Woods Cross.

Alex Lamb scored 10 of his 15 in the second half for Roy (4-10, 1-0 Region 5), while Alex Holley knocked down three 3s on his way to 15 of his own.

Tyler Cowley drained five 3-pointers for Woods Cross (5-11, 0-1) for a game-high 24 points. Dax Gorringe added four 3s and scored 18 points.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 81, ALTAMONT 54

LAYTON — Layton Christian led Altamont 30-25 at the half, then used a 35-point third quarter to run away in the second half.

Braxton Meah scored a game-high 23 to lead LCA (10-7, 4-0 Region 16) and Nicolas Alvarez added 12. Eleven LCA players scored in the game.

ST. JOSEPH 58, UTAH MILITARY 46

OGDEN — St. Joseph led Utah Military 18-7 after the first quarter and 34-13 at the half in the region win.

Gavin Andersen led St. Joseph (2-12, 1-2 Region 16) with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Jacob Ogden scored 14 points to lead UMA (3-10, 0-3).
