Since the mass murder of 58 people in Las Vegas, I have emailed and called my congressman, Rob Bishop, and Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee regarding their position on the following:
1. Bump stocks.
2. Large-capacity magazines.
3. Assault rifles.
My phone calls and emailed questions have not been answered by Bishop or Hatch. I received a short email response from Lee’s office, but my questions regarding the above-mentioned items have not been answered.
I didn’t ask them to support my position. I simply want to know their positions regarding these gun attachment tools that facilitated killing of 58 people attending an outdoor concert in Las Vegas. As you can surmise, I don’t think an average citizen needs them.
I have lived in Bishop’s district for over 20 years and I have been a lifelong Republican. Receiving no response, I began to research the affiliation of my representatives to the gun lobby. The following information is what I discovered:
With the above information in mind, who do you think my representatives will respond to? A constituent who asks their position on gun control or a gun lobby that gives them thousands of dollars to gain their support for gun sales?
Are my representatives afraid of taking a stand? Are they too busy to respond to questions from their constituents?
Failure to state a position on these critical issues is cowardice and, for me, the death of representative democracy in Utah. If you have the coin, you can buy a politically hacked democracy.
I still don’t have an answer to my questions, and I think all of us have a right to know where Hatch, Lee and Bishop stand.
