For the second year in a row, a steeplechase athlete will be Weber State’s lone representative at the NCAA national track championships.

Jordan Cross, a senior and Ogden High alumnus, qualified for nationals with a top performance Friday, May 25, at the NCAA West Regional meet in Sacramento.

Cross ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:41.72, which was good for seventh place and a ticket to historic Hayward Field for the national meet held June 6-9 at the University of Oregon.

Cross won the steeplechase title at the Big Sky Conference meet earlier in May. He improved his standing in Sacramento after entering the meet with a best of 8:56.08, which was 38th best in the West this season.

Last season, women’s steeplechase runner and Davis High alum Ellie Child was the school’s only representative at the national meet.

High jumper and Roy High alum Anthony Gregory narrowly missed advancing to the national meet. He cleared his first three jumps on the first attempt, including a season’s best 6 feet, 11 inches to tie a group of 28 jumpers to clear the height. But Gregory could not clear a jump at 7 feet, 1 inch that decided who advanced.
